Flower in Hexagon Motif

The flower in hexagon motif uses one of my favorite stitches, the puff stitch. It’s a fun stitch where you draw up several loops, until you have a whole bunch on the hook, and then yarn over and draw through all the loops, before closing it with a single chain.  One of the things I particularly like about this motif is that if you stop at Step 6, you will have a cute flower to use in a variety of ways. I hope you enjoy making this flower in hexagon motif as much as I do. It’s a lot of fun!

Step 1: Chain 6, slip stitch into 1st chain to form a ring
Step 2:  Chain 4 (counts as 1st triple crochet); make 23 triple crochet in center of ring; join with a slip stitch to top chain of 1st triple crochet.
Step 3:  Chain 5; make puff stitch > yarn over, insert hook from right to left, under chain 4 of previous round, yarn over, pull up a loop (4 times), yarn over, draw through all 9 loops on hook, chain 1 (puff stitch complete)

Step 4:  Skip next triple crochet; make (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) in next triple crochet
Step 5:  Skip 1 triple; make puff stitch around next triple
{Repeat Steps 4 and 5 (4 more times)}
Step 6:  Skip next triple crochet; make (2dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) in next triple crochet; skip next triple, slip stitch to top of 1st chain 5 – pull tightly to hide chain 5 behind motif (6 puff stitches)

Step 7:  Slip stitch in top chain of puff stitch, chain 1
Step 8:  Make 1 single crochet in each  of the next 2 dc’s, make 3 sc in next triple, make 2 sc in each of next 2 dc’s and 1 sc in top of next puff stitch
{Repeat Step 8 around, joining with a slip stitch to top of 1st single crochet.}
