Hexagon Heart

Hexagon hearts can be made by joining common sides into a heart shape, and working a simple border around the perimeter. Keeping in mind what hearts look like, eliminate extra stitches at points along hexagons, while keeping the necessary point in the bottom of the heart. This same idea can also be used to make square motifs into hearts.

Step 1:  Make 3 Flower in Hexagon motifs (any hexagon motif will work as a substitute)
Step 2:  Arrange hexagons with 2 above and 1 below

Step 3:  Join all 3 motifs at mutual center, chain 1

Step 4:  Single crochet in each stitch around perimeter
Note: Single crochet around loose ends to avoid having to weave them in later. Top 2 hexagons get single crochet around 5 sides, while bottom motif gets single crochet stitches around 4 sides.
Step 5:  Upon completing single crochet perimeter/border, make puff stitch in center of heart, where motifs are joined together.

Step 6:  Skip next 3 stitches, sc in next sc and in each stitch around 1st motif, except the last stitch
Step 7:  Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, sc around next 2 sides of 2nd motif
Step 8:  Make shell (2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc) in bottom point of heart; sc in each stitch on next 2 sides of 2nd motif, but do not sc in last stitch of 2nd side of second motif

Step 9:  Chain 2 (skip last stitch of 2nd motif and first stitch of 3rd motif), sc in each stitch of 3rd motif except the last 3 stitches; join with a slip stitch to puff stitch.
Step 10:  Chain 1, turn; sc in each stitch around, making 2 sc in chain 2 spaces on sides and 3 sc in triple crochet at bottom point of heart; join with a slip stitch to 1st chain.
Finish off. Weave in loose ends. Steam and lay flat to relax stitches and finish shaping heart.
