Snowflake Ornament 102813

By M. J. Joachim

Today’s project came to me while I was drinking my coffee. True to form, I pulled out my notebook and started sketching. Later, when I had time to work out the details, a few stitches were adjusted, completing the final snowflake ornament.
Step 1:  Chain 6, form ring by joining with slip stitch to first chain
Step 2:  Chain 3 (counts as 1st dc), make 11 more dc in center of ring; join with slip stitch to top chain of 1st dc
Step 3:  Chain 3, make (1 bullion stitch, chain 2, 1 bullion stitch) in same space
Step 4:  Chain 4, make (1 bullion stitch, chain 2, 1 bullion stitch) in 3rd dc from hook – 2 corners made
[Repeat Step 4 around, ending with chain 4 and joining to top of 1st bullion stitch in round]
Step 5:  Slip stitch into chain 2 space; make beginning corner (chain 3 + bullion stitch + chain 2 + bullion stitch) in chain 2 space; make 7 dc in chain 4 space
Step 6:  Make corner (1 bullion stitch, chain 2, 1 bullion stitch) in next chain 2 corner space, followed by 7 dc in chain 4 space
[Repeat Step 6 around, joining with slip stitch to 1st bullion stitch in round]
Step 7:  Slip stitch into corner, make beginning corner – chain 3, (bullion stitch, chain 2, bullion stitch)
Step 8:  Chain 2, make (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc) in first, third, fifth and seventh dc; chain 2, make corner in corner chain 2 space
[Repeat Step 8 around, ending with chain 2 and joining with slip stitch to 1st bullion stitch in round]
Step 9:  Slip stitch into Chain 2 corner space, chain 3 (counts as 1st dc), make 4 more dc in same place
Step 10:  Chain 3, sc in next dc – repeat to corner; chain 3 make 5 dc in corner
[Repeat Step 10 around, ending with chain 3 and joining to top chain of 1st dc in round]
Step 11:  Slip stitch in next dc; single crochet in following dc
Step 12:  Chain 15, sc in same dc to make loop
Step 13:  Chain 1, turn, make 20 sc in chain loop
Step 14:  Turn, join with slip stitch to 1st sc in loop
Finish off. Weave in loose ends.
