Joined Half Double Crochet Stitch Pattern 042714

by M. J. Joachim

This stitch it really easy and quick. It makes a nice closely woven fabric, suitable for a baby blanket or winter hat and scarf set. It’s also good for placemats or even a tablecloth, or dish towel and washcloth set.

The trick to this pattern is to begin working in the same stitch, as the last one you drew the loop from, so you are working in most of your stitches twice. The initial foundation row seems a little long, but by joining stitches, it quickly straightens out, making your edges even.

Foundation: Begin with a base chain as long as you want or need for your project. Add 2 more chain stitches to your base chain.

Step 1: Insert hook in 3rd chain from hook (yarn over, draw up a loop), insert hook in next chain (yo, draw up a loop) - 3 loops on hook; yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook

Step 2: Insert hook in same (last stitch), yo and draw up a loop; insert hook in next stitch, yarn over to draw up 3rd loop on hook - yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook

[Repeat Step 2 across row, ending with 1 hdc in last chain]

Step 3: Chain 2, turn; insert hook in 1st stitch (yo, draw up a loop); insert hook in next stitch (yo, draw up a loop, making 3rd loop on hook); yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook

Step 4: Repeat Step 2 across row

Continue with Step 3 to begin each row followed by Step 4 to make row for pattern.
