Double Crochet with Clusters

by M. J. Joachim

Foundation: Make a multiple of 4 chain stitches (+3 more chain stitches)

Step 1: Make 1 double crochet in 4th chain from hook and in each chain stitch across row

Step 2: Chain 1, turn; make 1 single crochet in each of first 2 stitches

Step 3: Make 1 double crochet cluster in next stitch

a. yo, insert hook in stitch or space indicated
b. yo, draw up a loop
c. yo, draw through 2 loops on hook
d. Repeat Steps b and c, until you have 6 loops on your hook
e. yo, draw through all 6 loops on hook
f. chain 1 to secure cluster

Step 4: Make 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches

Repeat Steps 3 & 4 across row, ending with 1 single crochet in last stitch and 1 single crochet in top of turning chain

Step 5: Chain 3, turn; make 1 double crochet in 2nd stitch, and in each stitch to end, but not in top of turning chain

Note: Watch your stitches closely, making sure to make dc’s in each single crochet and in top of chain closing clusters only. It is very easy to make dc’s in last stitch of cluster by mistake.

Step 6: Chain 1, turn; make 1 sc in each of next 4 stitches

Step 7: Make 1 dc cluster in next stitch, followed by 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches

Repeat Step 7 across row, ending with 1 single crochet in top of turning chain

Step 8: Repeat Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 - 8 for pattern
